The Gospel Music Association (GMA) announces multi-Dove Award winning powerhouses Bart Millard of MercyMe and Lecrae as co-hosts for the 45th Annual GMA Dove Awards.
“I can’t wait to be a part of what I believe will be a historic evening,” said rap and hip hop recording artist Lecrae. “Co-hosting with a great friend and talented artist makes it even better. Be careful though, who knows what will happen when Bart and I get together.”
Says Millard, “I’m so excited to be part of this year’s Dove Awards. The Doves are unique because they bring all styles of Gospel music together. Lecrae and I are just a small example of how different and yet unified this community is in sharing a message of love and hope through music.” He jokes, “To prove how unified we are, I will be freestylin’ my fresh rhymes while Lecrae sings the chorus to ‘I Can Only Imagine” over and over!”
The Gospel Music Association (GMA) announced the nominees are in 42 categories. The awards show will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Allen Arena on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN at 6:30pm CT. Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) will air the awards show on the network’s global stage reaching over 100 million homes in the US, plus global and multi-platform distribution.
Wayne Haun leads all nominations with 12 and artists Hillsong United, Lecrae, Mandisa and Matt Maher have 5 nominations apiece.
“Once again the GMA Dove Awards will bring together the best and brightest singer, songwriters, musicians, and professionals in Gospel and Christian music,” said Matthew Crouch, Vice President of the Trinity Broadcasting Network. “And TBN, the leader in Christian television and America’s most-watched faith channel, is honored to serve as the exclusive broadcast host for this night of unforgettable and life-changing music.”

The wins secured their spot as the overall winner of the 31st Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards and rounded out their pre-show award accolades, which included Group/Duo of the Year, CD of the Year, Contemporary Group/Duo of the Year, Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year, Contemporary CD of the Year, Producer of the Year (Anthony Brown and Justin Savage) and Record Music Packaging (Denise Trotman and Conni Treantefeles).
When accepting his award for Male Vocalist of the Year, he said, “As a baritone, as a lower voice, as a raspy voice person, I never felt good enough to sing, period. I always felt like my voice was a curse. And then one day God told me I gave you what I wanted to give you. And I want you to use it for my glory.”
“There’s a system to God’s order. He finds you in the pasture,” the State Farm Song of the Year recipient also proclaimed. “He finds you in the pasture where you serve. He doesn’t just find you on stage. He finds you while you are serving. We have to serve our way into the kingdom.”
Three-time Stellar Award winner Tasha Cobbs returned to the stage to perform “Put A Praise On It” and to accept three awards for Albertina Walker Female Vocalist of the Year, Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year and Praise and Worship CD of the Year. The elated first-ever six time Stellar Award nominee shared with the audience, “There was a hunger in my heart, a longing in my spirit to be at the feet of Jesus. I was thinking, the world is talking about formation, but I believe the church needs to get back to our formation and that’s at the feet of Jesus.”
Sharing her acoustic versions of “Fill Me Up” and “I’m Yours” earlier in the program, Casey J was surprised later on when she was donned New Artist of the Year for her debut album, “The Truth.” Proud and humbled, she shared her heart.
“As much as we support Gospel music, make sure you’re praying for those artists – beyond just buying their albums – pray for them. And I just hope that you share that with me, as I pray for you, you pray for us.”
After accepting Choir of the Year at the top of the show, Grammy Award-winning Pastor Charles Jenkins and his electrifying choir Fellowship Chicago captivated the audience with their smash No. 1 hit, “WAR.” Charles Jenkins & Fellowship Chicago’s sophomore album, “Any Given Sunday,” continues to delight the Gospel community as they took home a total of four awards, including Traditional Male Vocalist of the Year (Charles Jenkins), Music Video of the Year and Traditional Choir of the Year. Jenkins, an Inspired People recording artist, proclaimed, “Every church that sings – if you fight for victory anywhere – we agree with you – this means war!”
Brian Courtney Wilson, Hezekiah Walker,Kirk Franklin, Travis Greene and William McDowell also provided inspirational, rousing and spirit-filled performances throughout evening. The audience raised their voices in song during an all-star collaboration featuring the Dream Team of Gospel Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Karen Clark Sheard and Bishop Marvin Sapp’s medley of “A Secret Place,” “Never Would Have Made It,” “That Name” and “Stand.”
During the show, Stellar Gospel Music Awards Founder Don Jackson and nominee Erica Campbell bestowed the Stellar Honors, a special award and medallion commemorating excellence in their respective fields upon versatile film and television comic actor Jonathan Slocumb, and legendary Gospel figures multi-platinum recording artist and nationally syndicated radio host Yolanda Adams, highest-charting Gospel recording artist of all time Bishop Marvin Sapp, and featured vocalist on the landmark recording, “Oh, Happy Day” and the very first Stellar Awards host in 1985 Lady Tramaine Hawkins.
The Allstate James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award was presented by award-winning producer songwriter Byron Cage and the reigning queen of Gospel Pastor Shirley Caesar posthumously to Grammy Award-winner O’landa Draper with riveting tribute performances by his true disciples Donald Lawrence, Hezekiah Walker and Ricky Dillard. The Brat Pack “turned up the testimony” with a medley of his well-known songs: “He Touched Me,” “Gotta Feelin’,” “My Soul Doth Magnify,” and “I Gotta Reason.” Accepting the award on his behalf was his sister Teresa A. Draper, who was deeply touched that his songs continue to resonate with fans.
Joe Ligon, founder and lead vocalist of the Mighty Clouds of Joy, also received the Chevrolet Ambassador Dr. Bobby Jones Legends Award, which was presented by Dr. Bobby Jones who accepted on his behalf.

For 30 years, the Stellar Awards have honored artists whose unique Gospel sounds have inspired the nation. Every year, artists from the Gospel Music genre gather to experience their biggest celebration annually and award those who have put hard work and dedication into their sound. With award categories pertaining to the world of the very specific genre, some of the biggest names in Gospel Music attend annually. Every year there is a star studded red carpet, outstanding performances, and entertaining highlights. The 2015 Stellar Awards were no exception with deserving winners and one amazing surprise performance.
The 2015 show, held in Las Vegas, was co-hosted by David and Tamela Mann along with Ricky Smiley. The dynamic trio was described by several social media sites as some of the best co-hosts the awards ceremony has seen in its 30 years.
Among award winners was ten time nominee Eric Campbell. This stellar performer cleaned house during this show, claiming several awards including; Contemporary CD of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Urban/Inspirational Singer of the Year. With a moving acceptance speech, Campbell took to the stage to acknowledge her sister and the support she has received particularly over the last few years. Her sister, who is part of the duo “Mary Mary” also won an award the same night. Later in the evening, Deitrick Haddon took to the stage to accept his award for Best Male Vocalist of the Year. His heartfelt acceptance included references to his difficult past year and his ability to overcome thanks to his outlet—Gospel Music. He dedicated his award to those that were like him, the people who overcome adversity and terrible decision. A little later in the night he took to the performance stage with several other big names to sing their rendition of “My City.” The collaboration included 7 artists in total.
The New Artist of the Year Award was collected by Tasha Page Lockhart, who had the honor to perform on stage with other first timers “The Wall.” The group performed “Faith Come Alive” and “Great is Your Love” on the main stage. Co-host Tamela Mann also came out of the two hour night with an award for Special Event CD of the Year for her work on “Best Days Deluxe Edition.”
Like other awards shows, the two hour broadcast was only made complete by the star studded musical guest roster that took to the main stage to highlight both classic and new Gospel Music. The biggest surprise of the night was the on stage reunion of girl group, Destiny’s Child. Michelle Williams opened the show and was quickly joined on stage by former group member Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland. The show stopping performance to “Say Yes,” was a fantastic way to open the ceremony. Other performers included Yolanda Adams, Canton Jones Jr., and Pastor Beverly Crawford.
A beautiful finale for the night, Bishop Paul Morton was presented with the Allstate James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award for his work. He was serenaded with a beautiful rendition of “I’m Still Standing” performed by Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr Singers.
