Celebrities Who Started Dating After Years of Friendship: From Shawn and Camila to Kim and Kanye

Published

on

Written in the stars. Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, and more celebrities went from just friends to something more over the years. In fact, some of the strongest relationships in Hollywood began on platonic terms.

West and Kardashian did not start dating until 2012, but they first crossed paths nearly a decade earlier. “I met him I think in 2002 or 2003,” the KKW Beauty founder said during the Keeping Up With the Kardashians 10th anniversary special in 2017. “He was recording a song with Brandy, and I was her friend. I vividly remember hanging out with him, and then they did a video together, so I’d see him a few times. He was asking his friends: ‘Who is this Kim Kardajan?’ He didn’t know what my name was.”

The rapper quickly became acquainted with the reality star, leading to a long friendship that saw Kardashian wed to another man. She and Kris Humphries tied the knot in August 2011, but their short-lived marriage did not eliminate her bond with West.

“Right before I got married to Kris Humphries, [Kanye and I] were talking, and I just went a different direction,” she explained. “I think I had to go through that to figure out what I wanted. After my breakup, I was feeling really low and down and he said, ‘Just come to Paris and see my fashion show.’ He jokes that he put on this whole fashion show just to get a date with me. So I went there and I stayed with him, and that’s where we started dating. I swear from the moment I landed, I fell madly in love with him and I thought, ‘Oh, my God, why didn’t I do this sooner?’ Like, this is what real life is like — love and fun and real support.”

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher also had an aha moment years after starring on That ‘70s Show together. The Ranch star and the Bad Moms actress became friends with benefits … until she called it off. “I walked up to him and I was like, ‘You know what? I actually care about you, and I don’t wanna mess anything up, so I’m just going to walk away before it becomes too much,’” she recalled in a 2018 interview with the “WTF With Marc Maron” podcast. “And he was like, ‘Got it.’”

However, their feelings for each other won out: “The next day he showed up to my house, and he was like, ‘Move in with me.’”

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello

The musicians went on tour with Austin Mahone in 2014, at which time they struck up a friendship. They collaborated on “I Know What You Did Last Summer” the following year. It was not until they teamed up again for “Señorita” in 2019 that Cabello and Mendes became more than pals. The duo were first linked in July 2019, with Us Weekly confirming at the time that they were an item.

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis

Kunis received her first kiss from Kutcher when the pair starred on That ‘70s Show together from 1998 to 2006. The former costars became friends with benefits in 2012 following his divorce from Demi Moore, and things quickly turned serious. They married in July 2015 and welcomed daughter Wyatt in October 2014 and son Dimitri in November 2016.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

The Grammy winner and the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star met in the early 2000s but did not begin dating until 2012. The longtime friends, who now share daughter North, son Saint, daughter Chicago and son Psalm, wed in May 2014.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber

Hailey’s father, Stephen Baldwin, introduced her to the Grammy winner in 2009. The model and Justin dated from 2015 to 2016 before ending things. Us broke the news of their reconciliation in June 2018. They wed in September 2018 and held a second ceremony one year later.

The Kardashian-Jenner sisters, in particular, can’t get enough of flaunting their famous curves in bathing suits that allow them to show off their hard-earned bodies. Kourtney Kardashian, 40, is a lover of the fabulous look, wearing black one-pieces with intriguing side cut-outs to flaunt her toned torso while not having to put on a bikini. She once wore a peek-a-boo gold number that featured a bandeau top and bikini bottoms, linked together with a strip of fabric up her torso. What a hot mama!

Kylie Jenner, 21, has taken a cue from her older sisters in both one-pieces and bikinis. She’s rocked a white tank swimsuit with tons of side-slits to give it a much racier look. The lip kit mogul knows how incredible her curves are and makes the most of her body even in cut-out bikinis, with slits on the sides of her bottoms and strappy tops that up to the va-va-voom factor.

Singers know how to get the most of the sexy swimwear. Selena Gomez, 27, has been known to be a fan of cut-out swimsuits, wearing a black one-piece with a strip of fabric up her torso and nude panels up to the sides while on vacay in Mexico several years ago. Ciara, 33, rocked a gorgeous yellow one-piece with a giant cutout panel to flash her flat abs while taking in some pool time in 2015. Even superstar Beyonce, 37, is a fan of the look. When she famously went vegan in 2015, she showed off the results in a black one-piece with colorful patterns and two massive side cut-outs to show off her super trim waist.

Emily Ratajkowski, 28, wore a black bathing suit with a cut-out halter top while vacationing in Italy in 2015. Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara, 47, rocked an a-maz-ing black and white Agent Provocateur number while getting some sun in Miami. It featured a bikini-like top then crisscrossed with fabric down her tummy.

FASHION DESIGNER MARY QUANT TO RECEIVE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Published

on

Dame Mary Quant is to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the World Fashion Awards later this year.

The English fashion designer is credited as being one of the masterminds behind the creations of the miniskirt, a style synonymous with the swinging Sixties.

Earlier this year, an exhibition exploring the 89-year-old’s influential career opened at the Victoria and Albert Museum, taking visitors on a journey from the mid-1950s up until the mid-1970s.

The retrospective demonstrates how Quant brought bursts of color back to a post-war London, encouraging women to experiment with their approach to fashion.

The World Fashion Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 18 September at London’s Savoy Hotel.

Quant will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for a British designer at the prestigious event, an accolade which she described as an “honor”.

“It is such an honor to receive this award from the World Fashion Awards,” the dame said.

“It has been a privilege to have spent my life doing what I love and enjoy with so many extraordinarily talented and passionate people.”

Quant is among a plethora of esteemed fashion designers whose work will be honored at the awards ceremony.

Donatella Versace is also receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony, chief creative officer of Versace.

Fellow British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood is to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Fashion Award.

In February, Westwood staged a protest during London Fashion Week, having activist deliver speeches about climate change, Brexit and capitalism.

Nominees for Womenswear Designer of the Year at the World Fashion Awards include Victoria Beckham, Elie Saab and Clare Waight Keller, the artistic director of Givenchy who designed the Duchess of Sussex’s wedding dress.

This spring Maria launched her new Women’s wear line “Pink Glam”.  This line was birthed from the idea that women need classic fashions that are available to them in any and every basic silhouette & color that will never be thrown out of the closet! Pieces that can be worn in any season and with endless options to accessorize (and layer with other pieces you already own), for a different look every time! Pink Glam is constructed using classic yet modern designs, high-end quality stretch fabrics, and is available in a variety of sizes & solid colors.

Since its launch, Pink Glam has been worn by some of your favorite celebrity entertainers: Fantasia Barrino, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Tamela Mann, KeKe Wyatt, Gladys Knight, & Demetria McKinney.

For those that aren’t familiar with you; Tell us who is Maria Harper?

I am a woman who loves and trust God.  I am passionate about people and especially children, because they are our future.  I love fashion design, it is my passion and I wouldn’t have chosen any other career.  Most of my designs come to me in my dreams; therefore it is a thrill to see them come to life. Once I see the designs in my mind, it grows as I start putting the designs together.

What does fashion mean to you?

Fashion is everything.  If a person looks great they feel great about themselves.  I enjoy creating designs that can express a personal style, giving a person that extra boost of confidence they may need to take on the world.

What was the first article of clothing you ever designed?

I remember it like it was yesterday, I made a jumper dress with a blouse for myself at age 8, with the assistance of my mother who taught me how to sew, of course.

What are some of your accomplishments as a designer?

I have had the pleasure of working with many celebrities across the country on several personal, film, TV, theater, & film projects; creating everything from clothing to interiors to costumes (including the shocking bird costume worn by CeeLo Green for the Grammy’s in 2011).  Many people are surprised to know that my brand has grown significantly without advertising; projects that have come my way have been solely based on word-of-mouth, which is, I think, a great accomplishment!

Who are some of the celebrities you have designed for and tell us how you feel when you see them wearing one of your designs, whether it be on the Red Carpet or at other prestigious events?

Some of the wonderful clients that I have had the honor to work with are Tamela Mann, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia Barrino, & CeeLo Green to name a small few.  I still get emotional when I see something I’ve done at an event.  First of all, I still can’t believe it’s & second of all it makes me feel great that THEY feel great about the way they look; and to know that they trusted me to get the job done for such important appearances means the world to me.

Who are some of your favorite designers that inspired you and why?

My favorite designers are Vera Wang and Versace.  Their eye for detail and creativity are inspiring.

Do you prefer sketching designs or actually constructing them?

I prefer to construct the design as it is mapped out in my mind. I like to do sketching when working with a client one on one.

What advice do you have for aspiring fashion designers?

If it is your craft of choice, stay focused and never worry about the judgment of others when you are creating.

How do you define your personal style and what your designs exemplifies?

My personal style would be categorized as “Classy, Chic, & Timeless”.  You can never go wrong with a Maria Harper design, because they never go out of style.
